Traffic Bureau
Sgt Matthew Buesser Unit Head
The Traffic Bureau is one of the HPD's busiest specialized units. With the responsibility of monitoring Boro's traffic and pedestrian flow, the Traffic Bureau, manned by, Sgt. Matthew Buesser & P.O. Joseph Messner oversee the enforcement of all traffic laws, the review of all motor vehicle accidents, and the education of vehicle safety issues.
Members of the Traffic Bureau have a variety of training and experience; with a combined hourly total of classroom training somewhere in the thousands, the officers who serve in the Traffic Bureau are highly trained in the areas of traffic safety, enforcement, and investigation.
The Traffic Bureau's day-to-day responsibilities lie in the recording and tracking of the enforcement of the traffic laws, the use of R.A.D.A.R, and the various safety issues facing motorists and pedestrians who travel throughout the Boro. The Traffic Bureau has directed such activities as the Car Seat Inspection Program, Seatbelt Safety Checkpoints, Bicycle Rodeo, Pedestrian Safety Enforcement, "Click or Ticket", "End DWI” and other targeted traffic enforcement initiatives.
Moreover, the Traffic Bureau plans the road closures for special Boro events, like parades or memorial services. The Traffic Officers also handle all traffic/parking-related complaints and issues that arise throughout the year.
From diligent enforcement, like DWI Patrol, to community services, like the Car Seat Inspection Program, the Hillsdale Police Department's Traffic Bureau directs a variety of tasks that increase the safety of Hillsdale's motorists and pedestrians.
